About this course

Therapy Beyond the Binary According to Translegislation.com, there were 552 anti-transgender bills introduced in 42 states. While 193 bills failed, 32 have been passed. Those bills included restrictions on healthcare, participation in sports, bathroom usage, and access to gender-affirming treatment. In an effort to reduce stigma surrounding gender identity and expression, the DSM-V changed the language associated with gender identity and expression from “gender identity disorder” to “gender dysphoria.”  One of the major barriers transgender and gender diverse individuals face in seeking mental health services is to the lack of clinicians with an understanding of the ways in which gender dysphoria impacts mental and emotional wellbeing.  Objectives: By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to do: Articulate an understanding of Gender Dysphoria and the associated symptoms and behaviors Identify areas of their practice in which they can incorporate gender-affirming language Identify at least two new clinical interventions for use with transgender and gender diverse clients Increase knowledge of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care Version 8 Presented by: Tekulve, LMFT

  • Tekulvē Jackson-Vann, LMFT

    Tekulve Flower de Jackson-Vann is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in Utah, Georgia, Nevada, Michigan, Colorado, Florida, and Arizona. With independent practice since 2009, he holds a BS in Marriage, Family, and Human Development from Brigham Young University and an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Valdosta State University. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Behavioral Health at Arizona State University, Tekulve has extensive experience working with at-risk adolescents in residential treatment and adults in dual diagnosis programs. Passionate about expanding access to quality mental health care for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, he maintains a flexible practice with a physical office in Orem, Utah, and a home office. A dedicated father and grandparent, Tekulve embraces family life while balancing his clinical work. In his free time, he enjoys baking, bargain shopping, and unwinding with classic crime shows.
